Solar Panel Installation – Worth It?
Solar panel installation looks, on paper, to be quite pricey. The cost of supplies and installation runs into the thousands and for many, it is seemingly just too high an upfront cost, despite many of us knowing the potential environmental benefits.
But when you weigh it all up, is it worth it?
Frankly, yes. Even with the environmental benefits aside for a moment, the finances make it all make sense. Here’s how…
Feed In Tariff
From April 2010, a feed in tariff will apply in the UK. This means that not only can you sell your excess power back to the grid, but you can do so at a premium rate! This is to account for the fact that solar generated electricity is more expensive to produce than fossil fuel generated electricity. It means that, for a change, the power companies pay you! This is a particularly pleasant incentive for people who are out of the house all day at work because your solar panels are then generating power that isn’t being used for several hours, which means more to sell back to the grid.
Reduced Power Bills
Even on the dullest days, you’ll still have lower energy requirements from the grid than you did! This of course means lower power bills!
Value on Your Home
Solar PV panel installation adds an estimated 10% onto the value of your property. This of course means that it can really be considered more of an investment than an expense.
So of course it’s a pricey affair on paper, but over time, the panels pay for themselves and more!
